Beer, German
Guinness <3
Scotch
Gin Tonic, preferably Harahorn (norwegian gin) with Indian water tonic. Big ol slice of lime and a ton of ice.
Beer, Japanese
Great quality cider.
Vermouth and it’s not even a question
Sake
The juice menu.
At upscale restaurants, the juice menu can showcase how the kitchen wants to pair a custom made beverage with a specific dish.
This opens up for an additional aspect of creativity to the dining experience that I really appreciate. It’s almost like a second sauce.
Portwine!
High quality tea
Gin & Tonic, the second most perfect beverage.
Tequila / Mezcal – Fascinating, delicious and super terroir driven!!
Belgian Beer
Negroni
Water.
This community sees post about drinking too much nearly every day. I’ve certainly been guilty myself of trivialising my alchohol consumption, ‘wine is my hobby’.
By all means, drink the DRC. But I’d rather drink water than mediocre wine.
Sour beers
Beer.
Most places with an underwhelming wine list will have better value beer, in my experience. Especially in the UK, unless you have a soft spot for trash prosecco there are much better real ales at most places.
Oh unless it’s an airport lounge, because I have a tiny bladder, in which case a strong G&T is the way to go.
I’m surprised nobody’s said specialty coffee yet. A lot of crossover with sense of place, varietal, processing etc
Martini.
Beer – varied, versatile, and has a lot of easy food pairings.
Seafood? Wheat beer.
fish and chips? Cask ale.
Pizza? Lager.
Mexican/Thai? IPA.
Scotch. It has so much variety. Every bottle tastes different (at least if you’re not shopping in the supermarket) and is so much fun to explore.
Beer – There’s a saying in the industry “It takes a lot of beer to make a wine”.
Whiskey sour
Whiskey. Scotch, Irish, Bourbon, Japanese, etc.
Gin martini (8:1 gin to water), lemon peel, vermouth rinse
miller high life
Bourbon
Chartreuse. But if we’re talking wine adjacent my vote is Lillet Blanc.
Weinschorle (wine with sparkling water), obviously.
Beer or vermouth/tonic/lime.
Leitz Eins Zwei Zero. Surprisingly good for a de-alcoholized wine.
Seedlip-based mocktails.
Vermouth!!
Good old bottle of beer 🍻
