My first time using fondant!

It looks a bit like a dogs breakfast lmao but this is all very new to me. I couldn’t find silver/grey fondant anywhere, so I painted it, but I think the paint I bought is a bit too dark. Brushwork is a little messy. Probably gonna look harder for silver fondant next time, to make it easier

Half-asleep me also forgot to account for the curvature of the cake, and my rectangular pieces should have been trapezoidal. Oh well.

I knew what it was without having had to read your post. I was scrolling and saw that someone made a Death Star cake. I think that in itself is a win! I would be proud if I made it and super happy if someone made it for me! Great job!

I’ll have one for my birthday please☝🏻🩷

It looks amazing! You did a great job. Sphere cakes are not easy. I have a half sphere cake mold and it’s still tricky so I’m impressed. While I agree that fondant doesn’t taste great, I still decorate with it for the look. It can be peeled off before eating if people want to!

    Excellent use of the force!

You did a great job. Keep it up I can’t do decoration for my baking outside the basic of basic

Very impressive, and definitely immediately recognizable.

You made a round cake that was immediately recognizable as the Death Star. You did great!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Way better than I could ever do! Good work!

That’s not bad at all, especially if you painted it. Fondant would absolutely have cleaned up the appearance, but as someone who uses edible paint a lot (because I dislike fondant taste- looks cool but I prefer delicious to pretty) you did damned good. The sphere shape was on point and amazingly symmetric.

Give it another whirl with fondant (or consider direct piping patterns if you don’t want to get fondant). There are also a lot of quick DIY fondant recipes online if you want to dapple in trying to make your own. No clue how well they work, though.

Well done! Fondant on a round cake – I can tell it’s a Death Star- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️would totally devour this cake

My first thought was “That’s so cool!”

  14. Considering you were able to make two rounded cakes and they are together is amazing in itself. I knew what it was just by looking at it. If you’re worried about neatening it up freeze your cake after doing the frosting and then scrape it with a flat frosting spreader and it makes it super sharp; then add your fondant pieces. I think it looks great rn tho

That’s no moon… it’s a nerd-tastic cake! This looks SO good! I can understand beating yourself up for details not looking how you hoped, but you made a spherical cake! That’s so tricky. It actually looks perfectly round and it absolutely looks like the Death Star. Awesome job!

I understand that what came out doesn’t match what was in your head, I think we are always our own harshest critics and thats OK – it means we care about what we are creating.

Even so, **I** think this is an amazing first attempt. Well done!
