Would love some helping picking out a birthday wine. I normal shop in the $20-30 range but looking to buy in the $50-$85 range. All these wines will be 20% today.
I normally prefer cabs/malbecs/red blends but I’m open to suggestions.
Thanks in advanced!

Vina Tondonia, Heitz or Symmetry would bey picks
alexandcoffee
from this selection the only one I’d choose is the Heitz Cellar
tehslupe
Round pond, trefethen, Groth, and Frogs Leap are all good choices for your price range.
No_Eggplant6269
Groth is great
palescales7
Jonata “Fenix” is a merlot dominant Bordeaux blend and the 2016 is GOOD. I’d go that way.
Interestofconflict
Picking one from each picture and ignoring pricing altogether. Purely what I’d drink if money (and tangentially, a “good deal”) were absolutely of no consequence and I needed something to drink now.
Paradigm. Matthiasson. Fenix. Paul Hobbs.

Holy cow, is that a $99 price tag on the lesser Caymus Vineyards cab and $64 on Austin Hope? They sell the 2021 Caymus at my Total Wine for $54 and my local store sells Austin Hope cabs for $32.
I like the Groth on that shelf for that price if 20% off.
Ill_Competition_7223
I’ve had good wines from Bien Nacido, but not that producer.
Flowers is ok.

Domus Aurea all day !

Paradigm is good but it used to be like half that not that long ago
ConferenceSure9996
Paul Hobbs Russian River PN or Heitz

Isn’t the answer Caymus? Isn’t the answer always Caymus?
SRSCapital
Tondonia or Heitz.
orcrist747
Stag’s or Heitz.
PS this is the $30 on the website Caymus.

I like the vina tondonia, also Jonata makes really tasty wine and I also really like the pride mountain merlot
sluttyanna6969
Tondonia. We opened that a few nights ago 👩🏼🍳😘

I can’t see the bottle to the far left, but these 9 bottles will do, go for it
BadChineseAccent
If you have a Costco membership, see if your store has Heitz. It’s $68 where I live.

Paradigm. All the wines are estate grown and produced. Legendary wine maker in Napa.
PTFOchef
Vina tondina or the hilt
CapnFooBarBaz
Hard to judge prices without knowing where you are located (and many you could possibly find better online) but setting that aside and saying wines I like here:
Heitz cab, Matthiasson cab (prob my choice based on at least relative prices), Gary Farrell Pinot , Flowers Pinot.
tdrr12
Tondonia, Heitz, Matthiasson.
Though I can’t make out which bottle it is, u/matthiassonwine (sorry I’m going to quit your wine club shortly, budget constraints…) has a great sortiment.

Round Pond and Groth would be my first picks, then Pride because their Merlot is decent.
t_eejay
Champagne

That Lopez is overpriced, and I love Lopez.
The Conn Valley Right Bank would be my pick here.

The Jonata Fenix or the Heitz
cyclistguy_z
I’d go for these:
1) Rioja Viña Tondonia 2011 2) Jonata Fenix 2016 3) Silver Oak 2019 (early to drink but a beautiful gift to yourself, save for later!
Cheers!
posternutbag423
Holy shit caymus Cali at $100 y’all are wild 😝
posternutbag423
Round pond quietly selling grapes to just about everyone there except heitz lol
ababab70
Silver Oak, Jordan or Groth.

Groth, 100%

It’s not nearly as pricey, but you’ll probably be very happy with that Clos du val merlot. If they have the cab, it’s even better.
The Hobbs pinot might be interesting.
Most do appear far over what I’ve paid for them, BUT it often depends a lot on geo.
Not Caymus. It’s their B-level anyway.
Dry_Faithlessness280
Lopez Heredia, Jonata, or The Mascot depending on your budget
zin1953
Obviously, avoid the Caymus. I would ***not*** do the Heitz, NOT because it’s not a good wine but simply because it’s too young, too tannic. The same applies to every **2018** on the shelf. The wines from **2019 are** showing better right now. And I wouldn’t do anything from any vintage *younger* than that.

Frog’s Leap or Jonata
Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia
Or
Heitz
That particular Caymus is overpriced literally by 100% if I’m not mistaken, I guess it depends where you are?
Jonata, you’ll be happy.
For the money, Orin Swift Machete is a solid buy. But overall for taste, Heitz
Idk if many will agree but i’d say don’t sleep on the San Simeon Stormwatch if you dont want to spend towards the higher end out of these options
The Spanish bottle all the way to the right, that’s barely visible, from Palacios. Skip all the new world stuff, those are universally meh.
