I was in a Walmart the other day and ran across this jar and decided to invest the 4bucks and give it a try.
I saw that there were Ghost peppers in it and I was *very* cautious in giving it a taste. Generally arbol and/or habañero are my limit on heat, but I thought I would give this a try.
Visually it was not impressive. Very watery and thin with unidentifiable chunks.
I gave it a good stir, then shook all the salsa off the spoon leaving a thin glaze of juice and gave it a cautious lick.
Barely any heat. I spooned up some more juice. That got me some heat but not even jalapeño level. Next, I just took a big spoonful (chunks and all) and held it in my mouth.
That got me a bit more heat, virtually every salsa I make myself carries more heat. The label says the heat level is “offensive”, perhaps so, but only if you’re very easily offended.
If there is actually ghost pepper in this jar, it is present in homeopathic concentrations.
Otherwise, it is very tomato forward and sweet. I’ve tried it on a few of my go-to salsa meals and it is pleasant enough.
I wouldn’t buy it again, but I will finish it.
