Very well done! I’ve made pretzels a good handful of times and I always have problems with my shaping. Flavor always seems to be right on point so at least I’m doing something right.

How did you get these to hold and not shrink up?

For anyone who’d like to make these pretzels too here’s the recipe!

    Ingredients:
    – 1 1/2 cups warm water
    – 1 tablespoon sugar
    – 2 teaspoons salt
    – 1 package active dry yeast
    – 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    – 2 ounces unsalted butter, melted
    – 10 cups water
    – 2/3 cup baking soda
    – 1 large egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
    – Coarse salt, for sprinkling

    Instructions:
    1. In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and salt until combined. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

    2. Add the flour and butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until the dough comes together.

    3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

    4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

    5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    6. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.

    7. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a 24-inch rope.

    8. Shape each rope into a pretzel by making a U-shape, crossing the ends, and pressing them onto the bottom of the U.

    9. Boil each pretzel in the baking soda solution for 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet.

    10. Brush the pretzels with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.

    11. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until deep golden brown.

    12. Let the pretzels cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
