I must be one of the dozens of people left alive who loves liverwurst

I used to work at a deli and we carried boars head LW pretty much exclusively for like 5 of our regulars. Marble rye with onions LW and mustard. Potent stuff. We had a specific slicer designated to slice it since it made such a mess smearing all over the blade. Still prefer slicing that to olive loaf which essentially turns olive bits into little projectiles. Deli workers all over will be relieved to hear this news. There are some euro meat stores in queens that import it that my german family still buys from around the holidays

Liverwurst is delicious. Just have to find something other than Boars Head.

Just because Boars Head is stopping making it doesn’t mean it’s disappearing. Plenty of other brands. A few years back I overheard a guy ordering a LW and Bacon on a hard roll. I decided to do the same and for a while it was a lunch staple for me. Delicious, if not exactly healthy

I checked a huge local grocer and all they have left is Jones Farm Braunschweiger.
Boar’s Head liverwurst from that VA plant had to be like 50+% of national liverwurst sold in America.

I love it when food goes out of fashion then some small, gentrified looking restaurant pops up with the food as their main gimmick and offering as if they invented fire. It will come back.

I worked at a deli and still have never had liverwurst

I’d love a liverwurst sandwich with onion, tomato, mustard and mayonnaise on rye bread.
I’d recommend buying Karl Ehmer, Schaller and Weber or Empire Market liverwurst. There’s a place in Baltimore called Wasserman and Lemberger that makes a great version, too.
