This might be specific but on the east coast I feel like all the mexican places have a small section for vegetarian combos. Is there anywhere in Chicago that has this?? I'm missing the east coast type of mexican places
Looking forward to seeing what others post as well

I second Casa Yari, there are veg options for everything, from drinks to dessert, and the food is incredible. Pilsen also has great restaurants with veg menus like El Taco Azteca, Yvolina’s Tamales, 5 Rabanitos, and the Jibarito Shop.

Mexicans don’t have much of a vegetarian culture
They have foods that are vegetarian but not many entire meals

Casa Yari is good for a mixed group (vegetarian and not) but it’s absolutely not Mexican.
El Faro is good and has a vegetarian section. Otherwise you have the typical vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Quesadilla La Reina del Sur and Penelope’s Vegan Taqueria.
But really, if you’re just looking for vegetarian and not vegan, basically any Mexican restaurant will be to accommodate. You can get rajas and chiles rellenos, etc, and those are just peppers, and typically very mild ones.

Not a specific place, but I have a vegan friend and Mexican always has something we both enjoy. A lot of the dishes on the menu are really good just subtract the meat and possibly add on a few things you would enjoy.

Not exactly what you are asking for but KieGoLanee in uptown has a bunch of vegetarian options. It’s Oaxaca focused cuisine which I expect is not easy coast US but it is so damn good.

The here a full vegetarian Mexican joint in wicker/logan(?). I think it’s called cilantro & onion. It’s on western some where between Milwaukee and Fullerton. I think it’s right across from tacos chingon.

There’s a couple locations but I recently went to Taco Maya and really enjoyed everything I had. I went to the one in Logan Square that also has a full bar, got a blue moon in a nice frosted glass for $3. I had the guacamole, Nashville hot cauliflower taco, Paneer taco, and Samosa taco: all very tasty and vegetarian. They have options to make stuff vegan too!

Despite all these good recommendations, just check the menu at regular places as well– a lot of these combos do exist, they just get listed as one filling among many options rather than called out as veggie.
