Great adds, including red lobster. I humbly submit the bread at Carne Mare too

  2. SabzQalandar

Good list. I really liked the focaccia and olive oil/ricotta dip that comes for the table at Nizza.

Upland’s got some really good complimentary bread

Crown Shys bread is absolutely fantastic.

  5. BlurryUFOs

nothing is good at polo bar, my cousin worked there. The food was so mid

Well, not good for the price. I understand that people go there for the exclusivity, but if you’re gonna charge that much for food, it’s gotta be at least decent.

Dirty French – the flatbread yall.

I used to work there and I would open a table for 2 when no one was there. Intercept that delicious flatbread. Claim it was a mistake and greedily eat it behind the bar with the espresso guy covering for me while I shoved it in my face

Has anyone been to both Per Se and The French Laundry?

The bread at TFL was one of the best breads I’ve ever had, not sure if they do the same bread at Per Se or something different. Was expecting to see it on here

Not sure if this counts bc it’s technically not served in bread basket at each table, but the bread tray at Le Bernardin which is brought around during lunch + dinner is also superb. You can ask for several pieces at a time and in my experience, they make sure to come over to each table multiple times over the course of a meal.

Not on the list, but Scarpetta’s bread basket (with the calzone bread) is also fantastic,

The focaccia at Oceans is pretty great. They serve it with soft butter and very flavorful olive oil together in the same dish. It’s a good thing you get only one free piece per person or I’d be even more overweight than I am already.

Ok, wait…I know that Amy Ruth’s isn’t consistent, but there are few days out of the week where the ‘good cook’ is there. You know the good cook is there, because the cornbread is to die for that day. It’s hot, fluffy, buttery, and melts in your mouth. It’s literally like my most favorite cornbread of all time and Black Nile’s blueberry cornbread is really delicious!! I’ve also had people’s homemade cornbread and made my own and it still can’t compare.

Amy Ruth’s best cornbread trumps Sylvia’s cornbread all day everyday. I’d rather the author not even include any soul food restaurants on this list if all they are gonna try is like the most famous one in NYC. Though I do appreciate them including that one random one in Staten Island.

That’s like including Carmine’s on a list for best Italian food. Just, because the portion sizes are humongous doesn’t mean that it’s tastes good.

All in Manhattan with the token Williamsburg selection??

  12. This list was designed for me. Thanks for sharing.

  13. Kia wine bar in UES, the bread is so light and airy but still has a nice chew to it. The oil and spice mixture they provide elevates it to another level.

  14. Teamseokbae

I must add Anassa Tavern (midtown location) as my two cents.

  15. yakitorispelling

I remember years ago, Scarpetta used to have a good variety of free bread with refills.

  16. NYCme3388

Le Pavillion. I ruined my meal for that bread.

    Clocktower.

Wish I hadn’t read the article though. You lost me at Red Lobster. How idiotic.

  18. EVAGAAGAVE
