We’ve got 8 days coming up and we want to experience the best New York has to offer. Been trying to curate a list with icons as well as great reviews from all over the place, including this sub for the last few months. What are we missing? What would you remove? Some things like Tiffany’s we have to do for my wife but fully understand it’s not gonna be the best food in the city.

First time. Love getting buzzed. Two couples. Happy to spend money but no $500 tasting menus as not what our friends are into.

Also haven’t even started looking at bars yet so any recs for beers, wine and cocktails would be great! We’re staying in midtown but want to explore all over the place. Bars near midtown for a nightcap would be useful though.

This looks like a chatgpt generated list of just items you’d find mentioned a lot online, like its not bad, its just gibberish without context list of random “famous” or web-trendy restaurants.

FYI midtown is not a bar area. Bars there suck. For literally anything that isn’t directly tourist related, you need to leave midtown, it is not an area of the city to hang out in or do stuff. It just happens theres a lot of hotels there, you should spend as little time there as possible.

The major bar ares in manhattan are the east village, lower east side, west village and to a lesser degree Hell’s Kitchen. All of them have all types of bars you could dream of from dives to $$$. West village is more bar/restaurants spots, East village and lower east side are more bar-centric, and the restaurants are separate. All of these locations have many of the top restaurants in the US, from cheap to expensive, and probably many of the top bars too in the same range

For beers/drinks, listing some great breweries.

    – Finback (also has great food via Dumpling Up)
    – Other Half
    – Evil Twin
    – KCBC
    – Kato Sake Works
    – Hana Makgeolli
    – Brooklyn Kura
    – Fifth Hammer
    – Focal Point
    – That Witch Ales You

If you’re going to Momofuku for ramen, there are a lot better options like

    – Ramen Ishida
    – Susuru Ramen (also has a great craft beer selection)
    – Okiboru
    – Shuya
    – Nakamura
    – Tabetomo (when they reopen)
    – Tonchin

For italian, I’d say forget carbone go to fiashchetteria pistoia, rezdora, or Roscioli. And for ramen jeju noodle bar.

  4. # I’d probably remove Ba XuYen from the list. It’s pretty out of the way (~40 mins from midtown) and you can find similarly deliciously cheap Banh Mi in Manhattan Chinatown (Banh Mi Saigon, get the #1).

American BBQ isn’t amazing in NYC but Hometown BBQ is probably the “best” place that we have. However it’s in bum fuck nowhere in Redhook and it’s annoying to get to from Midtown using public transportation because you’re going to end up transferring to the bus to get there.

If you do plan on making the trip out there, make sure to check out [Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies.](https://maps.app.goo.gl/9ZRstJWHxiTCsKJL9)

There’s also a [Strong Rope Brewery](https://maps.app.goo.gl/gG3VyB2CStkPZws67) right next door.

I’ll probably add Junior’s to your list? They have 2 locations in midtown and they’re famous for their cheese cake from Brooklyn. It’s a really heavy cheesecake though.

I’d also throw Magnolia’s banana pudding on to the list. It’s good, not mind blowing, but they have locations everywhere in Manhattan and it’s certainly worth a try.

[ZooBooze made a really good updated map of all the Breweries/Distillery/Wineries/etc in NYC.](https://www.reddit.com/r/nyc/comments/17js989/every_brewery_winery_distillery_etc_you_can_visit/)

If you want to hit up multiple Breweries in one spot, I would recommend hitting up Park Slope or Industry City in Brooklyn.

Park Slope has Finback, Wild East Brewing, Strong Rope, Threes Brewing, all within a 5-10 min walk from each other.

If you want American BBQ, there’s [Dinosaur BBQ](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Fup76cLWhF2Fu5Mw7) down the block. Would also recommend [Bogota Latin Bistro](https://maps.app.goo.gl/sK1kJrkFobj1mPG39) since you probably don’t have much Latin American food in the UK.

[Industry City](https://industrycity.com/) is great for a weekend day trip visit. It tends to be more lively during the weekend (but never to the point where it’s packed. They also have various events during the weekend, you’d have to check their events page. They have tons of small shops and you can just walk around and explore.

They also have a “alcohol alley” where there’s tons of good alcohol options.

    Alcohol standouts:

Alice Big Barrel tap room has excellent beers. There’s almost always someone throwing a kid’s birthday party on the fake lawn in front of Alice’s lol.

Brooklyn Kura is a sake distillery that brews on site (they have weekend tours but I’ve never been).

I really enjoyed the whiskey tour at Fort Hamilton Distillery (weekends only).

There’s at least like 4-5 more alcohol spots here too.

There’s a LOT of food options in Industry City during the day, but most of them is kind of mid.

Standouts: Would recommend checking out the Tacos el Bronco truck not too far from there. There’s also a Hometown BBQ outpost (although people say it’s not as good as the original). Table 87 has good pizza. AYAT has an outpost.

Other non food standouts: Taidama (a Japanese coffee/tea hole in the wall. Get the pourover coffee, maybe get a bag of loose tea to bring home). Lilac is NYC’s oldest chocolate house and they make all their chocolate here. Ample Hill is from Brooklyn and have good ice cream.

Skip los tacos, overrated and has recently gone up in price

  6. hobo-knives

Some of these will be easy to make happen, like Hometown and Bark, but others may be too much of a time sink to bother, like Sylvia’s and Lucali. Get some reservations for dinner if you can.

  7. Electronic_Zebra5518

I would replace bagels – Russ and daughters – with Apollo Bagels

  8. futurebro

Skip momofuku and greenpoint fish and lobster. Sub any place in Chinatown (delux green bo, wo hop, joes shanghai) and sub red hook lobster pound or mermaid inn.
