One of the websites that gets recommended a lot here is ‘The Mediterranean Dish’ – so I thought I'd share this article from CNN about the founder of the site, Suzy Karadsheh: https://edition.cnn.com/2024/09/26/health/mediterranean-dish-cookbook-wellness/index.html. Suzy was born and raised in the Mediterranean region, and I really like her attitude to the Mediterranean diet:

Preparing meals the Mediterranean way, according to Karadsheh, can help you “eat well and live joyfully. To us, ‘diet’ doesn’t mean a list of ‘eat this’ and ‘don’t eat that.’” Instead of omission, Karadsheh focuses on abundance, asking herself, “what can I add to my life through this way of living? More whole foods, vegetables, grains, legumes? Naturally, when you add these good-for-you ingredients, you eat less of what’s not as health-promoting,” she told CNN.

She also shares her “7 Commandments of the Mediterranean Lifestyle” which is a really good overview of how to incorporate the Mediterranean way of life into your own life 🙂

Love her! I’ve been making her recipes for the past year or so and they’ve all been really good! Her first cookbook The Mediterranean Dish is so good and I just got her new one Simply Dinner. Can’t wait to cook my way through it

I love this! Thank you for sharing!!!

I was raised on partly Japanese food as my mom’s Japanese and my husband is too, naturally we eat a lot of Japanese food.

Some days I cook stuff 100% on par with the med diet and other days I crave comfort Japanese food and just want to make a rice bowl with chicken and eggs.

But then thinking“wait, can I add legumes/veggies easily into what I’m about to cook? If not, can I make a quick side-dish?” has really helped, and like the article says, just adding a small handful of veggies or legumes to what I was planning to cook for dinner reduces the animal protein I’m consuming by that much, which is a more sustainable way for me to eat healthier 🙂

She is my favorite. I’ve had such success with her recipes and they have been key to how my health has improved through diet. I made one of her salmon recipes tonight and my teen/tween kids both loved it too. She puts so much flavor into everything.

I ordered her new book through a local bookshop and I will be getting it this weekend. Very excited!!

She is the reason I was able to make the transition to this lifestyle a couple years ago. So much variety.

Thanks for sharing. Didn’t know about her. And I am hyped she is Egyptian! Sometimes we ignore a lot of the Mediterranean focusing only on Greece and Italy and ignoring how flavor rich the whole region is.

*”For recipes like her ciabatta, pita or lavash, she’s A-OK with using white flour. “The problem with flour and other bread products is not necessarily the flour. It’s the quality and all of the additives in things like bread,” she said.”*

    Citation Needed.

I also, am A-OK with using white flour in my bread/pizza making. And I’m aware of the contradiction in Official Mediterranean Diet (TM) Rules of using only whole grain flours, while the Mediterranean diet, as in the foodways of people living in Mediterranean countries consumes a lot (of really goregeous looking!) refined wheat flour breads (Turkey’s bread culture is kinda amazing!)

But “the problem” isn’t really dough conditioners.
