Replacing fresh tomatoes for canned tomatoes in a recipe.

I would like to can some BBQ sauce, when I make this not for canning I just use ketchup as the tomato base.

All the BBQ canning recipes I've found use fresh peeled tomatoes as their base. I have lots of canned peeled plum tomatoes, could I replace the fresh tomatoes with these peeled, canned tomatoes?
