Anybody have a foolproof recipe for red velvet cale??

Yes dense but I think you may have too much oil in it

All my cakes and muffins used to come out like this when I was younger from over mixing 😅😅😅 I will say I’m 27 now and realise how important it is to not over mix once the dry ingredients are in 😂 so it took me about 10+ years to realise my mistake

Overmixing?

If you trust your recipe it’s probably either over mixing or dead leavener. Based on the other comments here it sounds like over mixing, but it doesn’t hurt to check the dates on your baking powder/soda!

I recently made a chocolate fudge cake and looked like this! Overmixed, yes!

Pastry chef here….Did you add white vinegar?

My cakes sometimes also turn like this and usually I just mix all the ingredients in a big bowl with a spoon, I don’t use any machine… Could this be overmixed as well?

Hey peeps. I made another cake. This time added egg previous one was eggless. Mixed flour with spatula just to make it combined. And the cake came out perfect
Thanks to you all for your advices 🫶🏻🫶🏻🤍.

I agree with the others that it is way over mixed. But just curious – did you reduce the amount of sugar called for in the recipe?

If you think you did everything right, check the temperature of your oven.

Can you please share what brand color did you use. I am never able to get beautiful red color

Yup, definitely over mixing. I’ve done this a few times. At least you got it red, every time I’ve tried to make red velvet, only the outside is red and the inside is brown.

Overmixed. Or not enough leavening agent.

Never thought over mixing can ruin my entire day 🤯

Were baking soda and/or baking powder expired? They don’t tend to last upto their use by date anyway unless refrigerated.

Please don’t poke your cake like that 😢

First, leave out that food coloring. Is this home made or from a mix? Lots of good troubleshooting suggestions here.
