Have we been sleeping on Cello’s Pizza?

I think the East Village has been starving for excellent slice spots ever since Sauce changed their recipe and subsequently shut down. Cello’s is better than I initially excepted. Same goes for Nuovo York Pizza. Hopefully the momentum keeps up

Went today, and I’m flabbergasted why this place isn’t more popular. Feels like when I went to Scarr’s in 2018-ish when that place was still cruising under the radar.

The margarita slice was very good, and the chicory-bacon was outstanding. Probably one of my favorite slices I’ve had since I tried L’Industrie’s bacon/fig jam slice.

It’s a rebranded shop that was already there. It’s good but their dough just doesn’t hit at all. I give it a 7.5/10. Seems a little pricier than average too. I went expecting a competitor to L’industrie and it missed the mark by a bit. I’d go back though if I were in the neighborhood.

I went before 8pm on a tuesday and the worker said they have no more pizza left and he is not making anymore- very weird place

Cello pizza is easily one of the best pizzas in the area. Its still kinda new since it re-opened under new ownership/partner. Give it some time, but its legit great slices.

It’s a very good slice and very underrated. Never a line. Makes no sense.

Haven’t tried yet but will soon. I just hope they’re not as pretentious as the previous place. The customer service absolutely sucked and the person behind the counter made me feel guilty for just going inside

I ordered from this place when it was Funzi’s. Tried to eat here a couple weeks ago. They were open, had people on line, and guys tossing dough, not much in the case. I just assumed they were busy, as I saw the dudes actively making pies in the back. Also had people setting up speakers and what looked like a mini bar in the corner, maybe a private event?  Manager looking guy paced the floor eyeing all the people on line. After about 10-15 min, he announces “Whatever we have left in the case is it, after that’s gone we’re closed”. No sign, no organization, no courtesy to say that earlier to people further back on line. Not feeling motivated to try it again.
