you went all the way to in n out.

    stood in line.

got to the front of the line.

ordered plain fries then proceeded to coat them in a literal ketchup/mustard layer like a drizzled dessert…

and your question is whether or not burgers are sandwiches?

Fries with mustard is not a sandwich. You weren’t asking about the hamburger were you? Because Wikipedia has 63 references to sandwich in the hamburger article alone. So that’s not really in dispute.

According to the dictionary, yes I would classify this as a sandwich. It’s not like you got to chick-fil-a and call those things chicken burgers. Maybe some do. As far as the French fries, I disapprove of your technique not taste of mustard. Two things are happening here. 1. Moisture… the longer the mustard and ketchup remain on the French fries the less crispy they become. 2. Heat Transfer, liquid will cool down something faster than air… A hot crispy French fry are two components of a great French fry which In-N-Out does not have but you must do what you can to maintain the integrity of the available French fry. And to maintain the integrity of the French fry, sauce should only be added immediately before consumption.
