Recently received a cast iron skillet as a housewarming gift. I have plenty of experience on a grill, but wanted to learn how to sear a nice ribeye on cast iron. I’ve done this a handful of times, but this was my best so far. What does everyone think? Any tips for a newbie?

only advices is to be careful cause “ya show it, ya share it” is the rule around here.

More oil based on the smoke pic, avoid seasoning with anything pre-sear that will get torched or will prevent a crust from forming, and then lastly just work on the crust formation by flipping more often on high heat.

Doneness looks beautiful and that’s the most important part by far!

The key in cast iron for me is oil. Use a bunch of olive oil and butter at the end. Also drinking voodoo rangers eh? Someone’s tryna get fucked up fast 😂

How long did you let it rest before cutting into it?

Looks absolutely delicious! Could let it rest for a tad longer to help keep it juicy

Try Fruit Force for summer days. Refreshing and delicious.

I like to sear it a little bit longer on a little lower heat than that

    Looking good.

My only tip would be to use more oil, that will help the whole surface of the steak get a more even sear especially if your using coarse pepper. It will also help avoid burning the pepper and the fond.

How do people prevent smoke alarm going off when there’s no kitchen windows?

Looks good, you could try dry brining which made a pretty big difference for me
