Continuing my mission to make as many sandwiches from The Encyclopedia of Sandwiches (by Susan Russo) as I can, #16 is the baked bean sandwich. Baked beans are like my childhood, it was one of those easy suppers, so it was kinda nostalgic. I liked the sweetness of the beans and brown bread. Some cheese slices on the side would go perfectly with this!

I’ve enjoyed following your sandwich project, but I must say this is the first one that does not look good!
/r/beans material
Britain’s contribution to the culinary world.
Is that a sandwich book from England? Baked beans with everything just doesn’t work in my American mind.
terrible, take a lap
Pass…
lol imagine being British

You’re maybe one of my favorite people on r/eatsandwiches
Put the beans over brown bread from a can like a true New Englander.
How the hell are you even supposed to eat that lol
Better with cheese on top of the beans
this sandwich presents an easy target for mockery but actually supplies a decent balance of tastiness vs nutrition, while remaining as simple as you can get. people cannot always afford expensive ingredients, but if there were one to be added here it would surely be some shreds of melted cheese

Best new project today! So much of this just blows mind
I would try that sandwich and likely be happy with it.
Looks amazing!
Reminds me of what I used to eat when I was a kid back in the 70s and 80s. Canned ham and bean soup (or was it bean with bacon, can’t remember exactly) over 2 slices of bread. I loved it.
Diabolical
What in the English am I looking at?
I audibly said “what the fuck?” as soon as I saw this.
I’ve made this sandwich for years using a semi-firm hollowed out hoagie roll so I don’t need a fork.
Simplistic as shit but damn I bet that’s delicious. Did you make the beans or just get like a good ol can of camping beans
