I was gifted this presto cooker from my grandmother and the top is stuck and absolutely won’t budge .in the first photo it is completely on and the second photo the back isn’t locked in me causing it to stay stuck . Is there any tips or helpful ways to get this off without causing any damage . It’s a presto cooker canner no 21 paten number 2218188

  2. Honestly, I would put that on display and either buy a new Presto stove top canner or look for a newer one on the second hand market. You likely won’t be able to find replacement parts for it and the newer ones have several key safety features that are lacking on your old canner.

    with the pitting and the banged up appearance and the lid being stuck, this thing looks like it has been badly abused which would make me think it is not safe to can with because you don’t know what happened. they are good sturdy canners if you take care of them but this one does not look like it was taken care of

    I bought an old presto canner off of market place. Used for 40 years but clearly very well cared for. It works like a charm but I am slowly replacing all parts. If you’re In doubt, I wouldn’t use it. It’s not worth the safety concerns and possible loss of product as well.

    Yeah I don’t know. You got to figure out a way to get it to twist without breaking cuz it wasn’t put on correctly
    Unless there’s a way you can unscrew the brown handles if they are inhibiting the top from moving
