The quality of this Pinot noir made by Drouhin in Oregon is out of this world! The French freshness is well present while the fruit forward American cherry balances it. Ruby colour with a beautiful nose of raspberry and oak, the palate is intense in red cherry and forest floor while the minerals stand out. The complex finish reveals amazing vanilla pods and leather while the fruit turns into a beautiful cranberry jam in your mouth. This is special and an amazing pair with a homemade chestnut and sage risotto, yum!

Do you know about Joseph Drouhin? He’s one of the folks responsible for Oregon wine being taken seriously starting in the 80s. His influence let people know that Oregon wines could compete with those of France.

It was 20 years before that, though, that some other folks were the first to notice similarities between Oregon and France in regard to winemaking potential. David Lett (from Eyrie Vineyards), Dick Erath (from Erath Winery), and Charles Coury (winemaker who has since passed away), who were all students of UC Davis, are the original badasses of Oregon wine.

The cuvee Laurene is a stunner for sure

Looks yummy. I was hoping this would be slightly more affordable. Getting tired of California Pinot prices.

I honestly like the terroir of Oregon the most of any region for Pinot Noir.

Just visited Résonance, the Louis Jadot venture in the Willamette Valley. Great wine, the winery was gorgeous and they hired well for their staff. As soon as they knew my wife and I were wine nerds we were all geeking out about when they picked and what else to taste!

I tried my first Drouhin a week or so ago, and thought it was such a great expression of OR pinot. Vibrant, fresh, really noticeable black tea notes. A really wonderful story behind the wine, and I think their work will show well in several years.

I would like to try some Oregon pinot noir but the only ones available here under $50 are:
    – Pike Road
    – Ken Wright
    – Trifolium
    – Cristom Mt Jefferson

Are any of these any good?
