Made these for dessert. They were pretty good tasted like a chocolate cookie no surprises. I substituted the nuts for chocolate chips. I've got a 3lb tub of sour cream and I've only managed to use half of it so far so I'm on the look out for recipes to try that use sour cream. Book is a community cookbook from 1985.

Those look good! If you want to use up some more of that sour cream, make paprikash!

I’m always looking out for a 1960s ‘Sour Cream Softies’ cookie recipe.

I recall they took an entire cup of sour cream per batch.

If you’re successful in coming across a recipe, I’d love it too.

#CHOCOLATE SOUR CREAM COOKIES (Drop cookies)
    2 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted
    1¾ c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    ½ tsp. baking soda
    ½ tsp. salt
    ⅔ c. soft butter
    1⅓ c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg
    ½ c. sour cream
    ½ c. broken nutmeats

Grease baking sheet; have oven at 425° at least 10 minutes before baking.

Sift flour and measure with baking soda, baking powder and salt. In another bowl cream butter until smooth. Add sugar in two portions, creaming well. Stir in vanilla. Beat in egg until fluffy. Stir in cooled chocolate until blended. Then add sour cream. Add flour mixture to chocolate mixture. Stir in nuts.

Drop heaping teaspoon 2 inches apart. Bake 9 to 10 minutes or until barely done. Let stand on sheet 1 to 2 minutes; then remove. Makes 4 dozen.

Looks good! Are they cakey brownie like?

Sour cream no churn icecream, chocolate sour cream frosting, a blob on top of oatmeal with berries and brown sugar, dip strawberries in sour cream and then in brown sugar- or look at fruit dip recipes.

I couldn’t do it but they look so delicious!

As I’ve gotten older, my taste buds have changed and mixing chocolate with anything tangy (sour cream, cream cheese) tastes awful. I used to love the combo.

And of course, use your extra sour cream in a Sour Cream Pound Cake!! Delicious.

I always use up sour cream in pancakes (you can just sub it in for buttermilk in a buttermilk pancake recipe) and there are quite a few good yogurt cakes right now that you could sub sour cream in for instead of the yogurt!

Sour cream pound cake is excellent, fyi.

Those look just like cow pie cookies!

It’s an old chocolate cookie recipe, but these look just like the little flat dried cow poops in a cow field

Interesting I hadn’t heard of sour cream cookies before. Is there a significant taste difference or does the sour cream have more of an effect on the texture?

I have frequently subbed sour cream for greek yogurt or even regular yogurt in recipes, especially baking recipes. In baked good, the taste difference is barely noticeable and they bake the same, measure for measure.

You can also sub it in non baked recipes, but there will be a more noticeable taste difference. Think sauces, dips, dressings, or you can even add some to smoothies.

So, if you already have some that call for yogurt, you can at least use up some more of your sour cream that way too.
