I never made or tried Japanese cream stew before. So this is my first time making it. Is the flavor supposed to be to be very subtle? I tried not to add too much salt. My family liked it, but I felt it was lacking a bit of flavor unless it is supposed to be quite light?

Ingredients:

  • mushroom
  • corn
  • broccoli
  • onion
  • carrots
  • potatoes
  • chicken thigh
  • chicken broth
  • milk
  • salt
  • pepper
  • A bit of chicken powder consommé

I just realized I titled it soup instead of stew after I posted. 😅

The flavor is mild. I start with a little bacon for smokiness, and bay leaves. I use heavy cream as well as milk, and also some parmesan cheese. Broccoli is cooked separately and added just before serving (to preserve bright green color and to keep it from falling apart in the stew).

I made this for the first time a few weeks ago. Used the soup blocks. It was so freaking delicious!
