Ogata, Paris, France (formerly 1 Michelin Star, lost it this year) my wife and I went in February of 2024, sorry I haven’t posted my ventures up to date will be adding some more in soon so keep an eye out.
Roasted ginkgo nuts with sea salt
(Tasting plated included the following)
Sweet japanese potato
Morsel Mushroom with black sesame paste
Fizery
“Root veg with sweet cream”(troubles with English translation)
Watercress with tomato jelly
Artichoke
Jap cabbage/bok choy
Veg croquette
Turnip 3 ways stems root and broth (forgot to get photo of this dish)
Tuna – Amberjack – Scallop
Taro root deep fried in rice flour served with red miso with chopped chicken liver
Tomago
Katsu beef with chicken jus, mixed vegetable
Rice with smoke trout vegetables
Miso soup
smoked radish, pickled carrot, pickled cucumber
Rhoubarb Granata
Matcha and coconut panacota
Red bean mochi with red bean soup
The food overall was just okay, the highlight dish for me was the red bean mochi and red bean soup it was so lavish and smooth it was an amazing dessert and I am not a dessert person. The complete let down of the meal was the rice dish, it was a spectacle with the presentation, table side stir and serving but the flavor was so bland and it was like eating nothing, the trout was dry as bone and there was not a pinch of salt or seasoning added, complete let down. (It really is no wonder that they lost their star with subpar flavors of the food)
The biggest complaint we had was the seating, my wife and I went as a two top and got seated at a rectangular table for 6 in the center two seats with two other couples. So there were guys to the left and right of me and ladies to the left and right of here, now don’t get me wrong having all the beautiful dressed up women was great but still very awkward. Again I get space is a premium but still… change the one table to 3 individual 2 tops with a few inches in-between and then combine them when needed. we did not get to sit at the chefs counter which was a shame.
Total with wine pairing for 2 persons was $645usd, overpriced compared to better places we’ve been to.
