Blind trade tasting this morning! I was able to nail down all the relative regions except Chateau Margaux, which I mistook for a California wine due to its fresh, ripe fruit and oak character. As for the rest of the wines:

Quintessa: known for its long history of organic/biodynamic winemaking practices. 91% Cab Sauv and 60% new French oak. Dark berry fruit and granular, smooth tannins. Great acidity.

Ornellaia: Bolgheri blend of 62% Cab Sauv, 31% Merlot, and a dappling of Petite Verdot and Cab Franc. Chalky tannins, earthy, tomato vine, and a jab of VA that improved with time in the glass. This one needs the most time to show itself out of all the wines tasted today.

Chateau Mouton-Rothschild: lots of green bell pepper up front that integrated better with time in the glass. Angular, muscular, lots of personality.

An awful lot of dead babies.

Kudos to you! I’m glad someone did this!

  3. These are all amazing wines! How long did you decant or slow ox each?

  4. Haven’t seen this much infanticide in one place since the children’s crusade …
