I had one of those bean soup bag gifts with the seasoning packet already included waiting in the pantry. It comes with some dehydrated vegetables but I added 4 cups more veg – chopped onion, celery and 2 bell peppers.
Then 2 ham hocks and cooked on high for 6 hours but I could have easily done low on 8-10 per the instructions. This was so good and so nostalgic.
I also found a seasoning recipe!

Add this to a bag of Hambeens and it's the same thing.

Crusty bread in there looks so good.
My dad made this for my family growing up all the time. Nostalgic for me too! When I was younger, I didn’t know what a ham hock was, and it might’ve freaked me out. Not anymore! So much flavor there.
I make this but don’t use the seasoning packet. Go get a big smoked ham hock from a butcher shop, and the smokiness is all the flavor!! I also add celery, its a must for all soups and stews imo.
