Hi everyone,

We recently bought a house with a patio that has an existing grilling station. From what we can tell, the previous owners used a butane cylinder with a grill grate with controls placed on top. We’d love to make use of this space for cooking, but we're hoping to do so without investing tens of thousands of dollars in landscaping.

Has anyone seen a similar setup or have recommendations for a grill or cooking solution that could work with these existing pits? Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

  1. Man, so many options, I would love to square that top section off and put a big thick piece of floor grate over that and lay some roofing tin over the top with a stove pipe worked in somehow, build a fire in the lower corner where the leaves are piled up, and put a whole hog on the grate and use a shovel to put fire coals under the hog.

Clean up the “shelf” area and pour some concrete there to create a base to sit a grill/griddle on. Hard to tell how deep it is but it looks deep enough to set something on.

I’m more from the pragmatism school of thought. While I’m sure this looked cool at one time- if you rebuild the grill area, how satisfied will you be with it without redoing the whole thing so it looks refreshed and usable? And- if you’re gonna do all that why not just raze the whole thing and make a version that is to your liking and not someone else’s idea?

Honestly, judging by the amount of back and forth I do personally when I grill, and the ease with which cleanup is- I suggest you just have a nice ground level patio area and buy a nice Weber Genesis 300 series or above. You’ll have all the components you need and none of the bullshit. I’m not saying dont use the patio area but I am saying when it’s all
Said and done you can have both a cool outdoor feature and a functional grill space with half the money and bullshit. Work smarter not harder.
