I ordered a fryer basket for tostadas. What is this wire for and how do you use it.

Could be completely wrong but it looks like it flips all the dividers upright to drain the tostadas after frying?

In the position shown, conceivable filled with corn tortillas, the wire lays over the top and put between the slots in the handle to keep said tortillas from floating out when frying. Personally used one for 23 years. Some models have a notch on the wire.

Once you have it loaded with tortillas, the dividers stand straight up. The wire helps hold the dividers in place (and tortillas, since they want to float).

Why do you need a basket for tostadas? Just lay the tortilla in an empty fryer, flip and done.

Does that not break from standard usage after…ya know, three days?
