My Masterbuilt caught fire. I’m looking for a replacement and could use some help.

I really like the master built, but I’m not a fan of having to constantly feed it wood chips. I’ve looked into the Traeger, but I really don’t need a grill and I don’t wanna spend that kind of money. I just need a simple smoker with a pellet hopper and auger. I’m only doing low and slow. I do like tech features.

What would you recommend?

Oh, in regards to the fire. The wood chips caught on fire which then lit the pork shoulder on fire. By the time I noticed it, it was toast. Thankfully, it was nowhere near the house.

Thanks for your help!

I was on the same boat as you when my masterbuilt roached out. Tired of soaking wood chips and spending additional funds to mod my cold smoker attachment for my masterbuilt, I picked up a pellet grill.

There really isn’t that much learning curve to them. I’ve found that maintenance was surprisingly easier than the masterbuilt. I picked up a Camp chef MZGX. It is pretty much the DLX version but without a window. The window is useless. Pricing wasn’t that much more.

I’ll never look back to the masterbuilt vertical wood chip smokers again! It also allowed me to try many different foods with a better smoke ring. Really a game changer for me.

I had a unit just like yours…still do in fact but I moved to a Recteq pellet grill. It is better than the masterbuilt in every way except price. If you want simple with a hopper and a pellet auger you’re talking about a pellet grill, thats what they do. Dont get hung up on the “grill” term, they are all smokers that kinda-sorta do grilling too. If price is the issue, there are a wide range of prices out there and holiday sales are right around the corner. Used ones are sometimes a good bet too, FB market place usually has several any time I’ve looked.

I see my master built until the front door hinges rotted of it 😂. Then I got a pit boss Austin XL, really love the pellet grill, but also wanna get a propane grill too for quick burgers and hot dogs. Just get a different flavor once in awhile
