How can I adequately clean the rust off of this older Marcato pasta machine? I really want to put it to use.

I took a very similar machine apart using an 8 year old youtube video. It’s not hard, but you have to get the order right. It’ll come apart to the point that you can rub the rollers with something to remove rust.

I would check on the availability of replacement cutters before trying to clean them. If they’re available and not too expensive it would be easier to replace.

Wd40 and brushes, maybe roll a blue roll through it a few times, then flush with isopropyl alcohol?

The only true way to maybe get that rust off is like sulfuric acid

Vinegar and baking soda. Hard brissel brush

Honestly? A new Marcato Atlas 150 is $90 on Amazon.

There’s a product called “evaporust”. it works really well, and is non toxic. That being said, I have a 2 year old machine, it’s identical. Prolly worth just getting a new one, or maybe the slicing attachment is available separately.

TIme to get out the toolbox and disassemble that bitch.

I really hate to break it to you, once the chrome plating is compromised they’re toast. you can clean the rust but it will rust again, every time.

the trick is to never ever get them wet. my wife’s nonna says this, her machine is from the 60’s and looks brand new. imperia, I think…

Just make pasta with it. Throw away the first batch if you don’t feel comfortable eating it.

They come apart pretty easy if you are handy. They have some YouTube videos. I did this with one my uncle left me with a bunch of other kitchen hand me downs and I couldn’t part with it. You can find kitchen safe rust removers from easy off the oven cleaning brand.

Disassemble it all. And use the sprag and wire brushes

Wire wheel drill attachment, blow it out with air, and then wipe down with some olive oil.

Brand new one for under $100 on Amazon!

Nah. Let it go. Even if you remove the rust, it’ll come tight back. That chrome is gone under the rust. Way too hazardous. Let it go.

Take it apart and soak the parts in CLR then use a a fiber abrasive pad, a wire brush and rapeseed oil on any stubborn built up rust.

You can take it apart or Just keep running dough through it until it’s clean.

Even if you clean it, it won’t be food safe unless you have it replated. Just replace the blade (or the machine)
