    Ingredients:

    – 1/2 lbs of chopped gai lan

    – 2 chopped tomatoes

    – 1 sliced onion

    – 2 table spoon of vegan soy sauce

    – 1 cayenne pepper or a teaspoon of black pepper

    – Cooking oil of your choice

    – Water

    1. Take 3-5 minutes to prep your ingredients. You can use sauce pan, sauteed pan or frying pan depending on your preference. Make sure it has a lid.

    2. Coat the pan with oil, add in about 2 table spoons of water, heat up to medium flame, when you see bubbles begin to form, add in the onions, then soy sauce.

    3. When the onions slightly cooked and you smell the aroma of onions, slowly add in the tomatoes. Cover it with a lid.

    4. If it bubbles up and about to spill, open the lid and/or lower the flame, then close the lid again.

    5. When you see the tomatoes softened up, keep the lid on but turn off the flame and let the heat simmer it.

    6. Grab a bowl and carefully transfer the sauteed sauce into it, and let it cool.

    7. Meanwhile, recoat your pan with oil and add in 3 table spoons of water, if your pan height is low, then 2 table spoons of water.

    8. You don’t need to wait for the pan to heat up, because gai lan take a little longer to softening up, you can add them in now.

    9. If the pan is full, add the rest later and now cover up with the lid, set to medium flame.

    10. When the gai lan flatted down and not puffed up when it uncooked, you can add the rest in. Cover it with the lid and let it simmers.

    11. Depending on how chewy you want your gai lan to be, as long as you can gently cut the chopped gai lan stems with a pair of scissors, it’s ready.

    12. Turn off the heat but keep the lid on, so it gets softened up a little more. Transfer to a plate, then pour the tomato sauce over, mix well. And it’s ready to serve.
