Do you guys have tried these siphons? I find the result tastier than drip or press.

  1. Siphon coffee can be very tasty. I have the smallest Hario and it’s a treat with lighter roasts. But the preparation time and cleanup makes it difficult to use regularly. Best saved for when you hve plenty of time, and see the prep time as part of the experience.

I have a couple of them. One is French (can’t remember the name), the other is a Cona-D which has produced some of my all time favorite cups. I love it!

  4. I was super lucky and got a hold of a Bodum siphon brewer second hand for €15! I was happily surprised by how nice the coffee is it makes, and despite not using a paper filter, almost no fines make it to the bottom part.

    I absolutely LOVE the Siphon.
If you wanna try, this recipe is from Coffee Sweet, Taipei:

    12.5 gr coffee.
    175 gr water.
    Water thermometer.
    Cold wet/moist cloth.
    Read through recipe first!

-Place water in bowl, add thermometer.
-Heat water till 82° and add top bowl.
    -Wait till water rises.
-When water rises two fingers above filter, add coffee.
    -Start timer.
-wet grounds and then Stir one half circle left, half circle right, one full circle (slowly)
-Now regulate the water temp by moving the heat source back and forth. The water may not boil in lower or upper bowl!
-Keep regulating so water doesn’t boil, or falls back to bottom bowl.

-At 0:50 sec remove heat source.

Wrap lower bowl with cold cloth and wipe down to accelerate brewing. Do this three times.

Out temp should be max 76°
    Enjoy!

It can make very delicious coffee very consistently, but it cannot beat a really well made v60. It beats press in a lot of things, but French Press has a taste of its own, that a lot of people like as well.

My mom always uses a coffee siphon starting from when I was still a child. I find they are really good and her method since she hates hassle, is using a standard flat bottom paper filter and twisting it around the metal filter holder. If you master the twist, gotta twist it pretty tight, it functions just as well as the cloth filter and after brewing, you can unhook it and give it a light tap and the entire filter set up with push most of the used coffee grinds out, after which you can untwist the paper filter. The metal holder will be clean and same with your hands. Clean up would be a quick rinse afterward.
