My Breakfast: Day 1170
Today in the U.S. it’s National Hamburger Day!And shockingly after 1,169 days I’m debuting a never-before-seen breakfast!Hawaiian Loco MocoRice. Hamburger. Fried Egg. Brown Gravy. Sriracha Drips (I went “off” recipe and added those.)It’s been on my “to do” list for a long time, but honestly I thought it would be too homely. Yes. I’m that shallow. I’m a looks-ist when it comes to breakfast. But I was wrong! It was delicious! And it was quite fetching to look at. The purported beginnings of Loco Moco were in Hilo, Hawaii at the Lincoln Grill in 1949. And like so much great beach food, it was created to feed hungry, broke, surfers.
Loco Moco was cheap, big and loaded with carbs.
The surfers named this dish after one of their buddies George Okimoto, whose nickname was “Crazy.” George, a student at Hilo High school, was studying Spanish at the time so that’s where the “LOCO” came from.
MOCO, was not actually a word, but was added because it rhymed and sounded “cool.” You should add this to your repertoire because it’s yum and is cool.
