Checked the ingredients and it has ethyl alcohol for some reason. I just washed then boiled but they still have an alcohol smell/taste to them. Any special technique to making them?

    Try a bit of (rice) vinegar in your water or straight up pour vinegar on them to eat after cooking. You could also toss them in a sauce heavy with garlic and onion.
