Went to SingleThread last weekend for my wife’s birthday.

tl;dr – it was a solid, but not amazing and a bit expensive, though they have pretty reasonably priced wine list if you know what to look for

This is our second time at SingleThread, first time was during 2020 at Kistler, which was a pretty fun experience but left a little underwhelmed, nothing was memorable. I gave benefit of the doubt because they weren’t cooking in their normal setting, it was during the pandemic, they had to transport their ingredients, etc. I wanted to revisit in the future to verify.

Fast forward to today… Not gonna go into each dish, the highlights were the abalone, which was very tender and I normally don’t get why abalone is so sought-after. Other amazing dish was the duck, very flavorful and tender. Otherwise, most other dishes were very good not memorable. (btw, I forgot to take a picture of the very first course, which is like a large platter of different raw fish and sushi.)

The meal was overall very good, nothing was poorly done or ‘bad’. The service was very good, efficient and personable. I think my issue with SingleThread is its a bit boring, there’s nothing that challenges your tastebuds with unique ingredients or techniques. There isn’t a dish that’s daring or fun or exciting. The dishes just look very pretty. I wasn’t particularly angry or disappointed by the experience, but kind of left apathetic, wife and I didn’t have any extensive conversation, just nodded our heads that it was good. We did agree that a repeat visit is certainly not happening in the near future. I would say Benu, TFL, and Saison are doing far more exciting things

Thanks for posting! Your views on ST echo mine 100%. I enjoyed it, but really don’t understand why people love it so much more than other places in the area. I do really want to go back sometime soon, but will go in with lower expectations than on our first visit.
