Ichirin Hanare is a Japanese style Sichuan restaurant located at Kamakura, Japan.

It is a renovated old house and has a great atmosphere with a small garden.

The food was great with their signature three course Sichuan ‘drool chicken’ where you eat the chicken, tip the gyoza into the same sauce and finish it off with some buckwheat noodle.

The shark fin was in a deep umami broth which is not how it is typically served in traditional Chinese restaurant but tasted good regardless.

My favourite dish was the octopus. Their drink pairing was unique as well and had some shaoxing wine.

Overall the food was great, it’s not as spicy or mala as traditional Sichuan and sourness was missing as well. The quality of cooking however was great.

Food 4.5/5, atmosphere 5/5, service 4.5/5, drink pairing 4.5/5
