So last night we were watching Fawlty Towers 🙂 It was the famous Waldorf salad episode…and really put me in the mood for making a Waldorf salad, so I did! 🙂 Super easy to make as you can see from my 4 minute video! But surprisingly tasty with a lovely combination of ingredients…it just works! Have a go and hope you enjoy,
-Cheryl x

  1. Well now I'm not only going to make the salad but also go watch that episode of fawlty towers

  2. I love Faulty Towers… absolutely hilarious and a great testament to British television. Thank you for your videos as always.

  3. I haven’t watched Fawlty Towers. We would occasionally get to see part of an episode, but it was on at the same time as a show Dad liked so if he came in it got changed. Ahhh the good old days with one tv for the whole family lol.
I remember Mum made a Waldorf salad for a bbq and it was really good. It never became a regular thing though.

  4. I like to add some shredded or cubed cooked chicken. It adds some protein and more flavor. Take care!

  5. That was so inspired, brilliant episode. Haven't seen it for years but from recollection the child asks for salad cream and Basil gets snotty about only having the chef's home made mayonaise🙂

  6. I went on a Waldorf Salad deep dive last year. The earliest recipes I found were circa 1890s. They used equal amounts of apple, celery and walnuts and the dressing was mayonnaise with lemon juice. Sometime in the 1920-30s, the proportion changed to a 2:1:1 apples celery nuts ratio. Then in the 1950-60s, raisins and other dried fruit were added. And in the late 60s, cooked chicken was added.
I like the 1:1:1 ratio best.
Editing to add, there was also an Astoria salad, which was an grapefruit and orange salad. I guess it makes sense because the Waldorf and the Astoria were separate hotels before they were combined.

  7. Oh lovely I'm going to make this tomorrow, more salad ideas please cheryl you give us so much inspiration and fresh ideas when we're stuck in meal ruts x

  8. In NYC we add chunks of cooked leftover chicken to make it an entree, my mother also did a variation which included curry powder in the dressing.

  9. This is lovely with some cubed feta cheese and a few halved olives. Now summers here i love salads, a favorite is Shopska salad, (Bulgarian)Tomatoes, cucumber & feta, olive oil, s&p, so simple yet lovely.

  10. …….."Chef said we are fresh out of waldorfs". hahaha The look on Faulty's face when the American said to "bust some ass" was priceless. In the states the show would come on pbs. I'm sure I have seen every episode at least once.

  11. Good afternoon Cheryl it would be really excellent if you could do some mini series on cooking your lovely recipes for one because I live alone and there are lots of people who do live alone it's just a suggestion Cheryl love Andrea xxxxxxxxx
