If you’re a fan of garlic shrimp, this Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp Scampi recipe is an absolute “must try.” The procedure is very simple, but you will have to decide whether to do them the traditional way, with the shells on for max flavor, or the more “user-friendly” way, with the shells off. I show both in the video, and they were equally amazing.

  1. Take the shells off, make a sweet ass broth with them, incorporate that in the meal… And let your guests eat normal food without their fucking hands in sticky garlic sauce

  2. Chef john, what if you did decide to peal off the shells and cook the shells in the butter and garlic instead, to pull out the flavor? Would that work?

  3. Although I’ve said this before, I Will Not, under Any Circumstances, eat and/or cook shrimp, or any other shellfish- But, Since it’s a Chef John video, I can’t Not Watch it! And Bc you make cooking something that generally Grosses me Out So Fantastic, You Truly are The Best Chef John!!

  4. Love shrimp. However, my beef is ‘deveined’ like the shrimp in this video are NOT deveined! The poop vein is on the curled side with the ‘legs’. So yes, I buy these, but I ‘depoop’ before cooking!

  5. [Hmmm, wonder if anyone reads new comments for 2 y.o. videos.] Just tried this, and was fantastico. Touch of ginger syrup drives this home! The Brady Bunch Hawai'i episode is my absolute favorite, and defines my heritage, as both my parents are Hawai'ian-born. The tiki in the cave was a fantasy hoping to come true. But nothing beats my parent's ghost-in-the-road stories… Mahalo!

  6. You're missing the third option, which is to eat the shells. And while some people cringe at the idea, my perspective is they don't know what they're missing.

  7. Not bad. Tried it and found there wasn’t much complexity. Needs something to balance the flavor a bit.

  8. What exactly makes this so Hawaiian ish ? Seems like it should have some nice sticky sweet pineapple juice that they're cooked in .

  9. Have eaten shrimp dishes all around the world and it's just stupid to leave the shells on.
Leaving the shells on also leaves the gastric tract in place.
Why would you want all of the seasonings pulled off???
Some knuckleheads actually eat the shells!!!

  10. Why cook with the shells on? Seems like too much work….I guess you could suck on the entire shrimp to get the flavor then peel….I hate Maryland Blue Crabs….spend hours eating them for so little food…..that and Old Bay….they put that shit on EVERYTHING

  11. I'm gonna make this tonight as part of my pre-surgery low carb/ hi protein diet, I'll have it over leafy salad greens! I'm very excited!

  12. By the way guys, Shrimp Shells in my Mouth will be playing at Gabe's this weekend, no cover charge
